MotivDeals Partnered With LakePoint Sports!

Located 30 minutes North of Atlanta, adjacent to Lake Allatoona, LakePoint Sporting Community aims to become the nation’s destination for traveling sports. The complex will offer 5 million square feet (1,400 acres) of mixed-use commercial development, including extensive retail, hotel, office, entertainment and medical components.

Having only opened in June 2014, Lakepoint expects 2.5 million people on their campus this year and 6 million by year 6. MotivDeals has partnered with Lakepoint to created their vary own LakePoint Deals.

Using location technology, the new deals platform will show millions of traveling teams and their families local Atlanta businesses and specific deals tailored to LakePoint experience.

Why Is Digital Fundraising #Trending?

Remember when you use to hear “We now live in a digital age”?  That saying is no longer relevant because 3 year olds know how to use smartphones and can teach most adults how to build a better mine craft world.  We live in a digital age and everyone knows it.

So why is digital fundraising trending?  Because it’s time.  Because my grandma now says “I just Groupon-ed it”.  Because my 3 year old literally tries to swipe our flatscreen TV.  We no longer live in a world that says “Can we build it”, we live in a world that asks “Should we build it?”  Digital fundraising is something that should be built and it is being built.

Fundraising Objectives

Once your organization has identified your fundraising goals, it is time to solidify some objectives to reach those goals.

Objectives are a critical part of every fundraising plan.  They are the mechanism by which you measure your success and they are the triggers that continue your fundraisers momentum.  If you reach a pivotal point (a certain objective) in your fundraiser, your next objective should carry you along to your final goal.
Objectives Should Be:
Measurable – Include specific dollar amounts.  You should also include milestones in your fundraiser. (i.e. Once we raise “X” dollars, we will implement “X” objective.
Specific – They should relate to a concrete fundraising activity (or set of activities) that will be deployed.
  
Achievable – Make sure you come up with a target that is achievable.  Otherwise your participants will easily get discouraged and unfocused.
Relevant – Use Motivdeals Fundraising.  We are innovative, relevant, and can give you recurring revenue for future fundraisers!
Timescaled – THIS IS HUGE.  Make sure your participants know what milestones to hit and when.  Make hard ending deadline to your fundraiser!

Everyone is motivated by something. That something could be supporting cancer research, building a great youth center, or upgrading your team’s sports equipment. In order to raise money for a cause, traditionally, church groups go door to door selling cookie dough and peewee football teams hold out their helmets at stop lights for donations. Many sports teams today offer a coupon booklet featuring local businesses and restaurants to incentivize donations. The problem is, when you do finally want to use it, you can never find the darn thing!Motivdeals is here to make the fundraising process easier by making the coupons digital.

Founder and Atlanta resident Kyle Valencia has lived in Georgia’s capital for nearly 20 years and has a photography and video production business, Valencia Productions. Recently, he realized there was an opportunity for fundraisers. “I was approached every year by football players trying to sell me plastic fundraising cards. I thought, “With today’s technology advances, there has to be a better way of doing this,” says Valencia. This motivated him to start Motivdeals in January 2013.

How does it work? Motivdeals is a SaaS that is user friendly for fundraisers and donors alike. Non-profit organizations list their cause on Motivdeals.com and then sell 12 month membership codes to donors. Donors then become members, and select the deals they would like to redeem from the many restaurants and other local businesses featured. Those deals are emailed directly to their smartphone so Motivdeal members can simply show the store clerk the “redeem now” button at checkout. “Not only does Motivdeals help sports teams & organizations fundraise, we also have built a platform that gives local food and service companies free access to market to the local people,” says Valencia.

While there are an infinite amount of causes out there, Motivdeals is currently focusing on sports teams. “There are 461 high schools in Georgia alone. Each one having multiple sports and clubs operating within their walls. Although we do help other organizations like churches or art clubs, our main focus is capturing the attention of the sports community,” claims Valencia.

He also noted, “We are currently fundraising in Georgia and Ohio (and) are working on a partnership with an established fundraising company that would allow us to expand to the 30+ states that they are fundraising in and use their infrastructure to sell our Motivdeals product.”

Motivdeals recently finished a seed round of funding and are backed by local tech entrepreneur and Relus Technologies CEO, Mark Metz. “I invested in Kyle from my personal experiences. I have bought popcorn, wrapping paper, cookie dough, magazines, coupon books, and steak knives: all for great causes, but most of the products I really didn’t want. Motivdeals is a real “feel good” technology. Kyle has created an awesome solution that makes the process of raising money easier and more successful for the team, and gives the donor a product they will really use.”

They are also now hiring a full time salesperson as well as a developer, so look out for Motivdeals to make a big impact in 2015.

Why Digital Fundraising is Better than Traditional Ways

Figuring out that you need to fundraise is the easy part.  If you need money, you need money.  Finding a legit, established, and effective fundraiser is another story.

Traditional means of fundraising such as selling cookie dough, pine straw, laundry detergent, christmas trees, and deal coupons is, THANKFULLY, on its way out!

The old way was to sell a physical deal card or booklet, requiring the customer to physically keep the card on them in order to redeem. Motivdeals uses the sales of fundraising memberships allowing people to receive local deals through their smart phone.

We create all of our revenue through the sales of these fundraising membership,  (It’s a SaaS model); therefore, we are able to give local businesses the ability to create and manage specialized deals 100% free WITHOUT being gouged like other deal services.

Essentially we have flipped the goliath “DAILY DEAL TECH SITES” business model on its head.  We now place a small burden on the consumers, while no burden is placed on the businesses.

We are helping the community by building the community.

Organizing your staff for a great fundraiser

Organization in a fundraiser is extremely important. Leadership, information, and excitement needs to come from the top down! Organization works is best when you delegate action items to motivated people. This is the key to a successful fundraiser because there is no need for micromanagement. Simply find and recruit people who have a vested interested in making sure your fundraiser is successful. These people are most likely involved parents and caring coaches who are willing to put the needed time and effort.

Delegation Teams

  1. Money/Budget team
  2. Advertisement and Campaign Team
  3. Motivation Team
  4. Follow up Team

If you can find four key leaders to take hold of these four teams, your fundraiser has great potential for success! Once the team leader knows what needs to happen, they then can recruit other motivated people to help them accomplished the needs within their specific team.

Let’s just say it, fundraising is hard.  We are not going to sit here and tell you anything different.  But we can offer some helpful hints on how to make it a bit easier and a lot more profitable.  We are talking about incentives!

Incentivize your fundraisers!  Take some time to think about who your fundraisers are, what they like, and what it would take to make them excited to fundraise.

Tips for fundraising and using incentives

  1. Work with the fundraising company and ask them to for ideas.  The Motivdeals team loves to help!
  2. Instead of putting a prize at a mile marker (i.e. sell 10 and get “X”), incentivize with participation then mile markers. (i.e. if the entire team participates, the entire team gets a pizza party)  This creates positive peer pressure.
  3. Make sure your coaches/teachers/leaders are on board!  Nothing kills a fundraiser more than unmotivated leaders.
  4. Publically announce fundraisers who are accomplishing their goals.  Again, positive peer pressure.
  5. Incentives don’t always have to have a cash value.  Think creatively on what your fundraisers want to do/see. (i.e. coaches dyeing their hair or doing crazy things)

Milton High School track and field just started their fundraiser with us and are using incentives to motivate their kids!
